Prince Charles has congratulated Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama for being a vocal and strong advocate of climate change.
During their meeting, Prince Charles says he appreciated Bainimarama’s leadership roles in most of the climate conferences particularly the Conferences of the Parties 23 in Bonn, Germany.
He says at the bilateral meeting that the devastation caused by climate change was a serious matter that needed immediate actions and not prolonged discussions.
Prince Charles adds the importance of decarbonisation, the use of sustainable management practices and forestation among other initiatives were paramount in the fight against climate change.
He says with the availability of modern technologies to combat climate change, the need for nations to capitalise on such equipment for the purpose of decarbonisation.
He also encouraged the Fijian people to ensure sustainable forest development practices and to maintain its equilibrium.
Meanwhile, Bainimarama conveyed the country’s well-wishes to the Royal family on the recent birth of the firstborn of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
He highlighted the visit by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Fiji in October, last year.
Bainimarama says it was indeed a momentous honor for all Fijians because it allowed us to share our aspirations and underline our developmental challenges, including the realities of the impacts of climate change that greatly affected the Pacific.
The Prime Minister also briefed Prince Charles on Fiji’s nation-wide project of planting four million trees in four years, a commitment towards the conservation of our environment.
