Education Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Iowane Tiko confirms that he has addressed the Parents Teachers Association of Lelean Memorial School that students should not be barred from coming to school if their parents do not contribute to the PTA funds.

Tiko says while some schools have been allowed to fundraise, students should not be levied a mandated amount.

His comments came after students of Lelean were issued letters last month that states the Parents Teachers Association fees of $100 must be paid during enrollment.

The matter was brought up by a concerned parent who told Legend FM News that the letter from the school stated that places for students will not be confirmed until the PTA fees is paid.

He confirmed that the letter which was signed by the Principal of the school also stated that the enrollment form has to be returned by 17th of this month and failure to do so will mean the students places will be given to those on the waiting list.
