Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka commissioned three landmark projects this morning for the Fiji Ports Terminal Limited enhancing operational efficiency, sustainability and border security at the Lautoka port.
Rabuka says these projects are also part of the government’s larger initiative under the transformational strategic thrusts policy to enhance critical infrastructure which reflects the nation's commitment to sustainable economic growth.
The commissioned projects included maintenance dredging, covering an area of 63,624 square meters which will ensure that Lautoka Port can maintain its depth and navigability, crucial for accommodating larger ships.
He says the other projects include the construction of a container yard and a pilot boat project named “Louvaju” which will enhance the port's maritime control and border security with the ability to operate beyond port boundaries.
Rabuka stressed the importance of these developments in Fiji's broader strategic vision.
Rabuka stresses that for Fiji it’s very important because the volume of traffic coming in from both east and west will have to be broken down into island territory siders.
