More than 300 women in Fiji have gathered at the Vodafone Arena for the three-day National Women's Expo to showcase their goods and for networking.
Anaseini Laweibau from the Nacekoro Women's Club in Savusavu says the event provides a great opportunity for networking and learning from other women's skills and strengths in creating handmade goods.
Laweibau who is showcasing her jewellery at the expo, says she has been running her business for the past 24 years.
The 49-year-old creates jewellery using stones, freshwater pearls, and coconut.
As a widow, Laweibau says her business has supported her daughter's education.
She adds she loves what she does because it helps her relax, stay creative and make use of available resources.
First Lady Adi Emily Lalabalavu reminded the women present at the Vodafone Arena that their participation in the event highlights their creativity, hard work, and dedication.
She says despite facing challenges, including recent weather conditions, their resilience makes the expo even more special.
Adi Emily also highlighted the expo serves as a vital platform to connect women with sustainable economic opportunities and future government strategies.
Minister for Women, Sashi Kiran says potential economic drivers also play a role in preserving Fijian traditions.
Kiran also highlighted that this year's focus is on placing Fijian women at the heart of economic progress.
She reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing the necessary support, resources, and policies to further empower women through collaboration, training, and initiatives like this.
Kiran adds they will continue working to ensure that every woman feels included in Fiji’s journey toward sustainable economic development.
The theme for the 7th Fiji National Women's Expo is “Fijian Women at the Heart of Economic Progress”.
The Women’s Expo will be from today until Friday from 9am to 5pm.
