Hydro Fiji panel at the consultations in Suva about the Namosi Dam

Hydro Fiji believes villagers have been misinformed by a very vocal group who are opposing the construction of three hydro dams in Namosi which resulted in the villagers of Navunikabi protesting outside their village hall saying that they do not want the construction of the dams.

Hydro Fiji Executive Chairman Dr, Philip van der Riet confirms this happened just before the community consultation which was scheduled for Navunikabi yesterday.

Riet says they did not have the community consultation because of the protest.

He says they will continue with all the necessary consultations, and what they gathered was there was a lot of misinformation.

Mataqali Nabukebuke in Navunikabi Village in Namosi highlighted that some mataqali have agreed to the proposed hydro dams but there are also several people and landowning units that have not agreed and have not signed leases with the developers.
