Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu says after conducting tests in Australia, New Zealand and a few island nations, researchers have confirmed that most hard drug users live in Nadi.
While speaking on the Viti FM Vakaribamalamala Show today, ACP Driu says that heads of families in Fiji need to be aware of this concerning news.
He says the agency that conducted this research took samples from sewer lines in Kinoya, Nadi and from a few island nations in the Pacific such as Tonga and suburbs in Sydney, Southland and Wellington in New Zealand.
He adds that from the results they have received, they have noted that Fiji has topped the list in the Pacific region.
ACP Driu says drug related domestic violence has spiked while intravenous methamphetamine use has contributed to a historic rise in patients admitted to Fiji’s only psychiatric hospital as victims of substance abuse.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations is calling on all parents to do their job as a parent and look after their family members.
