New South Wales have questioned the eligibility of winger Ronaldo Mulitalo to play State of Origin after he was rushed into the Queensland team as a replacement for the injured Reece Walsh last night.
Mulitalo has previously represented the Maroons under 18s and under 20s but Origin eligibility rules state a player must be born in NSW or Queensland or reside there before his 13th birthday to qualify for that state.
The Sharks winger was born in New Zealand and moved to Queensland in October, 2013 – just before his 14th birthday.
NSW Rugby League CEO David Trodden says he had raised concerns about Mulitalo with the NRL and was awaiting a response.
The 21-year-old has also represented Samoa and the United States in the past.
Game 2 of the State of Origin series will kick off at 9.50 tonight.
The Blues won the first match 50-6.
