Most of the CCTV cameras in the Suva Market are not working as they are outdated and cannot be fixed while the Suva City Council is working on installing new cameras to address this issue.
This has been highlighted by SCC Special Administrator Tevita Boseiwaqa in an interview with fijivillage News, where he stated their intention to install more cameras in the market is to improve security, as this is an area where most drug and criminal activities take place.
He says after the Suva Market, they will consider installing cameras in Albert Park, the streets, and other areas.
Boseiwaqa says work has commenced, with their IT staff and Market staff working on it.
He also says most of the items need to be ordered and tendered, as they will cost more than $30,000, so the processes are underway.
He also emphasized the need for quality and sustainable cameras.
Boseiwaqa says they are trying their best to maintain peace and order in these areas by installing CCTV cameras and increasing security on the ground.
The Special Administrator adds that they are in discussions with the Police regarding the installation of CCTV cameras.
