In a show of true Easter spirit, the Ministry for Youth and Sports staff have stepped in to purchase items for the 45 street dwellers for their MYF Lautoka Division Easter camp at Lautoka Mission Primary School.
The items included bedding, clothes and shoes for their camp.
The 45 also began a new chapter in their lives after being enrolled at the Fiji National University Namaka Campus.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, says the 45 are part of the Ministry’s Easter on the Park program, designed to give them the skills they need to find jobs and build better lives.
Among them are seven future barbers, 20 tour guides in training and 18 bakers and pastry chefs.
Saukuru says the Easter on the Park program is more than just an event - it's a chance for our street dwellers to experience a sense of community and belonging.
He says during the Easter Camp, they will engage in spiritual healing, development, and personal growth.
The Minister says he cannot wait for the day when these street dwellers will finally have a place to call home, with a roof above their heads.
He says they are currently working closely with the Ministry of Rural and Maritime to make this a reality.
