Acting FICAC Deputy Commissioner Francis Pulewai says the media plays a pivotal and powerful role in exposing corruption and instigating legal, political and penal action against it.
Pulewai highlighted this during a meet and greet session with the different media companies this morning and says the role of the media is critical in promoting good governance and controlling corruption.
She says the fight against corruption demands a united front and requires the collaboration of citizens, businesses, civil societies, the government and the media.
She further says that it is our collective responsibility to foster a culture of transparency, accountability and integrity, and they at the Commission are committed to working in unity with all their stakeholders to achieve this.
The Acting Deputy Commissioner says they want to foster a network and collaboration with all the different media organizations here in Fiji in helping them fight this insidious cancer of corruption that not only threatens to erode the foundation of society but undermines democracy and the rule of law.
Pulewai says it reduces the quality of life, distorts markets and allows organized crimes and other threats to flourish.
She says corruption is most destructive in developing countries, hurting the poorest, damaging the government's ability to service citizens and discouraging foreign cooperation and national and international investment.
