Team Fiji Men’s Rugby 7s players Iosefo Masi and Filipe Sauturaga's family are all hyped up to watch the two players take the field in the Paris Olympics rugby 7s competition which kicks off tomorrow morning.
Sauturaga and Masi are half-brothers.
During an interview with fijivillage News, Masi’s father, Atonio Kawakawa says Sauturaga’s sons are eager to watch their father run onto the field tomorrow morning along with their uncle, Iosefo Masi.
Kawakawa says ever since the team left our shores, Sauturaga’s sons have been asking him where their father went, and he always told them that their father will be representing Fiji in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He says Masi and Sauturaga have always remained humble despite making a name for themselves on the world stage.
Kawakawa says they have supported Masi throughout his struggles.
Kawakawa also says that Masi's selection for the second time to represent Fiji in the Olympics is a great achievement for him and it makes the family proud.
He further says his son has contributed so much to rugby in Fiji, such as winning gold in the Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 Rugby 7s World Cup.
Masi was also part of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 Rugby World Cup and is also a member of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua that reached the quarter-finals in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific 2023 and 2024 season.
Kawakawa has sent his best wishes to Masi and Sauturaga and also to the 7s team and has urged them to play their hearts out as they are not only representing their family but their Vanua and the people of Fiji.
