The price of lamb chops has dropped from around $20 a kg to around $16 a kg.
This has been revealed by the Ministry of Finance Senior Economist Kamal Gounder when questioned by a student of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School during the National Development Plan consultation at the school.
Gounder states that the prices have decreased from the previous years and if the students find the prices too high, that means they are going to the wrong supermarkets.
During the budget announcement, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad had announced that fiscal duty on sheep/lamb meats will be reduced to zero.
For beef meat, the duty is reduced from 32 percent to 15 percent.
Professor Prasad also highlighted that the government will reduce import excise on chicken portions such as wings, drumsticks, legs, feet, thighs, etc from 15 percent to 0 percent.
