Former All Blacks flanker, Liam Squire will make his Super Rugby return from the bench for the Highlanders when they face the Crusaders tonight.
The 29-year-old has not played any rugby since the 2019 season due to an ongoing mental issue before signing with Japan's NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes.
Squire will join Josh Ioane and hooker Liam Coltman on a strong bench.
Aaron Smith will co-captain the side with hooker Ash Dixon, while Connor Garden-Bachop and Solomon Alaimalo will make their debuts at wing and fullback respectively.
Jona Nareki will also feature for the Highlanders.
The Crusaders have named a powerful side with the likes of Scott Barrett, Codie Taylor, Sam Whitelock, Richie Mo'unga, Bryn Hall, Sevu Reece and Will Jordan.
The Highlanders will take on the Crusaders at 6.05 tonight and the Blues will face the Hurricanes at 6.05pm tomorrow.
