Holi is a festival of colours and in our multi-racial and multi-religious country, it is an occasion that unites families and friends.
These were the words of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad as thousands of Hindus celebrate Holi today.
Professor Prasad says our forefathers, the girmitiyas brought all festivals with them and despite the hardship of the indenture system, they ensured that people preserve their culture and traditions.
He says Holi is one of the many traditions and festivals that people celebrate together regardless of their religion, as it is a time to forget the past and difficulties and celebrate together.
The Deputy Prime Minister further says that Holi is about good over evil and time to reflect on ourselves and what we plan to do.
He says many people have gone through flooding but he knows that people are looking forward to the celebration with their loved ones.
