The Ministry of Economy is currently distributing ration packs to families living in Suva and Nausori who missed out on the government’s food distribution program earlier in the week.

Their teams started the distribution this morning in areas such as Nakasi, Burebasaga Village, Cunningham, Tacirua, Valelevu, Grantham Road, Narere, and Sakoca.

Ministry of Economy Coordinator Kamal Gounder says these are families who applied by calling *161# and they are aiming to assist close to 4,000 families.

Gounder says they have identified these families after carrying out their data cleansing exercise and have found that they were legitimate requests but did not receive the assistance.

He says their teams are also attending to some genuine requests such as the elderly, single mothers, and people with disabilities who have not have applied for the food packs.

More than 15,381 families in Suva and Nausori were assisted through the program during the recent lockdown.
