Fijian Drua and Moana Pasifika will be provided financial support by World Rugby to allow them to join Super Rugby in 2022..
The governing body’s executive committee has approved a $2.35 million funding package for an initial three-year period to support two Pacific Island franchises.
Both franchises will also be supported by their home unions and private equity funding.
Fiji Rugby Union chief executive John O’Connor says the move by World Rugby is one of the most important in the history of Fiji rugby.
The addition of the teams to Super Rugby next year will still depend on the approval of New Zealand Rugby and on key conditions being met.
