Mike Tyson is not interested in fighting Sonny Bill Williams, claiming it would be “an insult to boxing”.
The 53-year-old Tyson is targeting a return to the ring, looking to do exhibition bouts for charity.
Melbourne promoter Brian Amatruda jumped at that opportunity, looking to bring the former world heavyweight champion to Australia next year and naming All Blacks double Rugby World Cup winner Williams, NRL great Paul Gallen or AFL legend Barry Hall a possible opponents.
The Daily Mail reported that Australian celebrity agent Max Markson, who brought Tyson to Australia in 2012 and was negotiating with his handlers on behalf of Amatruda, had received a message from Tyson's people saying the American wasn’t interested because of the quality of the suggested opponents.
The message reportedly said: “Mike read the story (in the Daily Mail) that he would be fighting a rugby player. He has said he would not do that as it would be an insult to boxing.
He says if he does get back into the ring it will be with a real boxer.
