England faces an early exit in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup after Sri Lanka’s defeat by 8 wickets.
The defending champions are not mathematically out but now must win all of their remaining games, including against unbeaten hosts India on Sunday, and hope for an unlikely set of results to go their way.
Sri Lanka, whose only previous win in this year's tournament came against the Netherlands, jumped to fifth in the standings while England is ninth, with only a net run rate keeping them off the bottom of the table.
In the upcoming match, Pakistan will face South Africa at 8.30 pm tonight.
