Data released today at a meeting focused on the review of the primary education curriculum showed that a lot of students in Year 5 and 7 are in the critical and basic level when it comes to literacy and numeracy.
Lima Nakula who is the Literacy Coordinator explained to Education Minister Premila Kumar today that the data they analysed was from 2016 to 2019.
He says the data was from LANA – the Literacy and Numeracy Assessment for students.
The statistics were more worrying for Year 7 students.
Permanent Secretary for Education Anjeela Jokhan and Head of National Education Service Delivery Timoci Bure were also present in the meeting at Suvavou House.
