Fiji Water Flying Fijians Coach Mick Byrne's first win as head coach started on the right note with a win against Georgia, and he stresses the need to convert all opportunities they get into points against the All Blacks later this month.
He says he was happy with the win againat Georgia because he spent a lot of time trying to understand what they wanted to do and how they would play with a lot of energy given the physicality of the Georgians.
Byrne says the Georgians were very physical around the breakdown, and he is glad the boys were able to contain them having just a week together in camp as a team.
He stresses that this week is an important week for them as they prepare for the All Blacks game and said that they missed opportunities out wide and defensively, they were reasonably good, but there are areas of improvement moving forward to the next game.
When questioned on his expectations and message to the fans before the All Blacks test in San Diego, Byrne says he is expecting a good turnout as always, as this is a people’s team and he knows the support in San Diego will be good.
Fiji will play the All Blacks on the 20th of July, in San Diego 2024.
