Australia has finally secured its first win in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup after defeating Sri Lanka by five wickets this morning in Lucknow, India.
The five-time champions Australia earlier lost to India and South Africa and were in another difficult situation when Sri Lanka reached 125 runs without any wickets.
However, Sri Lanka fell apart, losing all 10 wickets for 84 runs to be bundled out for 209.
Australia is now only two points off the top four places in the group table.
Sri Lanka is the only team in the competition to have suffered three defeats in the group matches.
Australia will play Pakistan on Friday at 8.30pm while Sri Lanka will face Netherlands on Saturday at 5pm.
