The French Ambassador to Fiji Jean-Francois Fitou says a lot of crimes that we have like smuggling, drug trafficking, cyber criminality is not Fijian, French, Chinese or American - they are worldwide and that is why cooperation is much needed.
Ambassador Fitou stated this as he paid a courtesy call to the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho at the Fiji Police Headquarters adding he was there among other things to improve relations with his country and Fiji.
The French Ambassador adds we all need security and without it, there is no freedom, no life, no business, no women’s or children’s rights stressing security is critical.
He revealed they will discuss future cooperation because it is not only something Fiji deserves but the Fijian Police has a right to be included in the wider world.
Qiliho acknowledged the Ambassador’s support stating forging international cooperation with other countries and international law enforcement agencies are being vigorously pursued by the institution.
Qiliho says the criminal landscape is the same throughout the world but on different scales adding he welcomes the Ambassador’s support in discussing ways of future cooperation regarding security.
Qiliho says that is exactly where they want to take the Fiji Police Force and they are looking at more areas of cooperation and are finalizing talks for Fijian officers to undergo French language training which is useful on UN missions and later they can hopefully send officers to France and tap into areas where France can provide training in niche capabilities that Fiji can link up to.
Ambassador Fitou was accorded a quarter guard ceremony of welcome and was given an overview brief of the Fiji Police Force and its operations both locally and overseas.
