The Rugby League World Cup has been postponed after Australia and New Zealand withdrew from the tournament due to concerns over the safety of players travelling to England.
RLWC2021 CEO Jon Dutton admitted a World Cup without Australia and New Zealand would have lacked credibility and predicted that the tournament may produce a better financial return after being postponed until next year.
The tournament will go ahead at the end of the 2022 season but is likely to be moved forward to avoid a clash with the FIFA World Cup which begins on the 21st of November in Qatar.
International Rugby League Chairman Troy Grant says the next World Cup is still scheduled for 2025, with France likely to host the tournament.
The Rugby League World Cup was scheduled to be held from the 23rd of October to the 27th of November in England.
