Many key United Nations Agency offices working in Africa, as well as the strategic office of the African Union, are located in Addis Ababa.
Speaking at the 5th Heads of Fiji’s Diplomatic Missions’ Workshop today, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the move to relocate our South African mission to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia fits Fiji’s overall strategic policy.
Bainimarama then urged Fiji’s Head of Missions’ to continue to draw alliances with the European Union, India and the United Arab Emirates to take advantage of their respective lead roles in different areas that will be of strategic importance to Fiji.
He says Fiji must maintain its relationships with other key partners such as China and must not be too reliant on any one or two countries.
