A special farewell ceremony was organized for the outgoing President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at Government House this afternoon.
After six years of service, Ratu Epeli was traditionally farewelled infront of Government Ministers, members of the Opposition, dignitaries and guests.
While delivering his farewell speech, Ratu Epeli says he leaves the office of the President today confident that Fiji is doing well.
Ratu Epeli says that the country has come a long way especially in putting together its new constitution.
He says he is also extremely pleased to leave office knowing that young people=s access to all levels of education is guaranteed and being facilitated.
The outgoing President says that he has especially enjoyed interacting with the people of Fiji under various circumstances and he particularly values his encounter with the youth of Fiji.
Ratu Epeli is also calling on people to fully support President‑elect Jioji Konrote.
Ratu Epeli adds that his service to the nation does not end today.
President‑elect Jioji Konrote will be officially sworn in as President of the Republic of Fiji at Government House tomorrow.
The swearing‑in ceremony will take place at 10am.
Konrote was elected as President after a vote in parliament last month.
