Questions raised within SODELPA on why the General Assembly is being taken to Vanua Levu

As SODELPA gets ready to have it’s General Assembly on the 28th of June in Yaroi, Savusavu, questions are still being raised by some people within SODELPA on why the important meeting is being taken to Vanua Levu as it would cost a lot of money and many people would not be able to afford the costs to attend.

These people within SODELPA who do not wish to be named say the total cost for the party alone is expected to be $11,100 as the party will subsidise travel costs for 100 people.

The plan is that 50% of the return fare of $80 will be paid by the party and 50 percent by the Constituency Councils.

It has been revealed that 80 drums of kerosene and 40 bales of material with a total value of $5,200 will be bought by the party.

Each Constituency Council also has to get one tabua each for the presentation to the outgoing SODELPA President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

Some of the SODELPA members say they maintain that the party’s General Assembly should be held in Suva and the call was also made to the party to consider this.

They say that this is an extravagant exercise and the party is accountable to it’s members.

Some of these party members also told Fijivillage that there will be a bigger turnout in a meeting in Suva as many people including the party’s youth members would not be able to meet the costs for the trip and stay in Savusavu.

They are also questioning why so many tabua is being requested and why this is being done at such a grand scale as this was not done for former Presidents or for former Party Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa when she finished from that position.

We are still trying to speak to the party about these issues.
