Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho

Acting Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says he is now taking immediate steps to ensure that child sex attackers are brought to justice, police operations are on track, robbery cases are reduced and the police vehicle shortage is addressed.

Qiliho had his first briefing with the senior officers of the Police Force today.

He is expected to visit the home of the 7-year-old girl who was taken from her home in Lautoka and raped by a man.

The man is still on the run and Qiliho says he may set up a Special Task Force to look for the rapist.

Qiliho says they are also looking at other rape cases where young girls have been raped by men in their 70s and early 80s.

He says these cases will be solved and the men will be brought to justice.

The Acting Police Commissioner says they will urgently look at the increase in robberies and also find solutions in relation to the shortage of police vehicles.

Qiliho says the longstanding police and military joint operation will continue.

He says there are plans to go into the drug farms.

Qiliho says this is only to assist the police.

The delay in the payment of the allowances for police officers will also be addressed before the end of this year.

Qiliho says he comes with 27 years of military experience and has a lot of experience in leadership positions.

He also says that he is thinking of applying for the Police Commissioner’s post when it is advertised.

Qiliho is also wearing the police uniform from today.

When asked by Fijivillage on whether he intends to become the next Police Commissioner, Qiliho says his output will determine that.

He also says that he will not make any comments on the claims by Ben Groenewald of military interference in police work.

Qiliho says the issue has been addressed by Acting Commander, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto where he had said that there was no interference.
