The new Fiji Airways A330‑300 aircraft officially known as the Island of Rotuma has landed at the Nadi International Airport.
President Jioji Konrote was onboard the aircraft when it was officially welcomed this morning.
The Island of Rotuma has the capacity to carry 313 passengers.
It can carry 289 in economy class and 24 in business class which is 40 seats more than the standard A330‑200 aircraft.
The catalogue price for the A330‑300 was US$253.7 million.
Speaking at the welcome ceremony, President Jioji Konrote says the new A330‑300 aircraft is a sign of Fiji as a country punching above its weight regionally and internationally.
The President also thanked the people of Fiji for allowing the aircraft to be named the Island of Rotuma.
He says all Fijians of Rotuman descent stand in partnership with the whole nation to remember this historic day.
Meanwhile, CEO Andre Viljoen says the Island of Rotuma is a testimony of the growth and progress of Fiji Airways.
He thanked President Jioji Konrote for agreeing to accompany the aircraft from Toulouse in France and also be the first official guest.
At least 100 new jobs are expected to be created with the arrival of the new plane.
These jobs will be for pilots and cabin crew.
