A group known as Fiji’s Ministry of Mums (MOM) say they are working with the National Taskforce for Drug Harm Prevention to help eradicate the use of methamphetamine by children in the country.

The Group feels that it is time to take a stand and help children fight against drugs as they have found out that some children face drug abuse related issues in their homes and are being used to sell drugs.

Founder of the MOM’s Group, Ellana Kalounisiga says it has been six weeks since the MOMS Group reached out to schools in creating drug awareness.

She says some of the schools that the MOMS Group has already visited are Corpus Christi College, Marist Brothers High School and Suva Grammar School.

Kolaunisiga says the group is still negotiating with the government to start a centre in the heart of Suva where students can come and spend time, rather than leaving them to look for illegal things to engage in.

She says once they find the funds and space for this centre, it will be up and running.

Kalounisiga says they will also be meeting with National Taskforce for Drug Harm Prevention on the setting up of a proper rehabilitation center.
