A future with her sons is what is pushing Hagar Holmes to overcome her battle with bipolar as she has been in and out of Saint Giles Hospital eight times and has attempted to take her own life in 2010, however she has managed to overcome these struggles to live a happy life with her family.
Hagar fronted a crowd of over 50 people at the Suicide Prevention Vigil at Terry Walk in Suva last night as she talked about her past. She says she was sexually abused by her father for seven years when she was twelve years old for which he was jailed in 2002.
Holmes says people need to speak up and reach out and get help.
She says she is 35 years old and she needs to get better now so that she can be successful and be able to be with her children.
72 people have taken their own lives in the first half of this year while another 61 have attempted to commit suicide.
Lifeline Fiji in collaboration with Youth Champs 4 Mental Health and Psychiatric Survivors Association held the candlelight vigil to remember those who have taken their own lives and to remind others that there is help.
