Be alert as our role and responsibility is very critical next week with the general elections to be held next Wednesday.
Those were the words of the Commander of the 3FIR Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Manoa Gadai to the 402 soldiers from Labasa, Lautoka, Nadi and Suva at the Military Parade at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks today.
Lt. Colonel Gadai said the military’s role is also important after the election.
He reminded the soldiers on what transpired in 2000 and stressed that this must never be repeated.
The 3FIR Commander said it is their duty to protect the military, the nation and the people of Fiji.
Lt. Colonel Gadai said that in 1999, some chiefs, pastors and some former military officers entered QEB and brought poisoned the minds of the CRW soldiers.
He revealed that they had a meeting and drank kava at the camp.
Gadai said the CRW soldiers then entered parliament on the following day.
The 3FIR Commander told the soldiers not to be double minded and stop getting rubbish from outside that will poison the minds of the people.
Meanwhile Gadai also acknowledged the winning Army Rugby Team, who won the Bougainville Trophy.
