Closing submissions were presented yesterday by Queens Counsel, Ian Lloyd who is representing businessman Feroz Jan Mohammed in the alleged $3 million scam.
Five people are charged in relation to the alleged scam including the former Roads Supervisor of the Department of National Roads, Aisea Liwaiono who has been charged with two counts of Causing a Loss while businessman Feroz Jan Mohammed and former civil servants Iliesa Turagacati and Navitalai Tamanitoakula are charged with Bribery, Obtaining a Financial Advantage and Abuse of Office.
In a lengthy submission, QC Lloyd told the assessors that it is not in dispute that his client received the money due to the works that his company, T.F. Jan Bulldozing performed but the receipts did not reconcile with what they were receiving.
Lloyd says there is clear evidence that Jan Mohammed was having problems relating to the overpayment. He says one of the items that is a concern is the lengthy list of the invoices.
He told the assessors to consider their opinions and leave no stones unturned.
