The case of a former Nadi businessman Mohammed Kaiyum who did not get urgent medical attention when he visited the Nadi Hospital and passed away at the emergency ward has been put forward to the Assistant Minister for Health during her visit to the Nadi Hospital.
Assistant Minister, Veena Bhatnagar had discussions with the staff at the hospital.
The Ministry said the real outcome could not be established because of insufficient information and it needs further investigation.
According to the Ministry, they are talking to the rightful authorities and trying to contact the people concerned.
The late Mohammed Kaiyum’s family is demanding answers from the Health Ministry after he did not get urgent medical attention when he visited the Nadi Hospital on the 8th of this month.
Kaiyum passed away at the emergency unit.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Kaiyum’s son Muqtadeer Saif Kaiyum said they are planning to take the matter further as they have video evidence to show that the nurses on duty did not take urgent action when his father had severe chest pain for more than three hours.
He said that they took their father to Nadi Hospital’s emergency department at about 7am on the 8th of June.
Muqtadeer said that no one wanted to attend to his father until about 10.30 that morning.
A video which is posted on Facebook shows the 49‑year‑old man in extreme pain, calling for immediate medical attention.
A nurse is seen in the video walking past him a few times however she does not respond to Kaiyum’s repeated calls for assistance.
Muqtadeer claims that the ECG report shows that his father suffered a heart attack that morning.
His father passed away at the emergency unit on the 9th of June.
