Australian Rugby Union CEO Bill Pulver says Australian rugby owes Fijians a Wallabies Test in Fiji.

The Wallabies have a handful of Fiji‑born players in their Test side and Pulver says they have to thank Fiji for their contribution.

He says they need to look long‑term at the opportunity to bring a Wallaby test to Fiji and also find a way to fit it in the international rugby calendar.

Pulver says the announcement of the new Fijian team in Australian Rugby Championship is a step in the right direction.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika agrees that Australian rugby needs to give back to Fiji rugby.

Cheika says he is a big fan of the concept of supporting Fiji as they have been big contributors to Australian rugby.

He says it is only right that the Australian rugby union helps grow rugby in Fiji because it will also help them in the long run.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has announced that Fiji will play in Australia's National Rugby Championship next year.

Fiji will be the 9th team in the tournament, which starts from August 2017.

Fiji will be playing four away games in Australia and more importantly, there will be four home games in Fiji.
