The Head of the Catholic Church Of Fiji, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong has condemned men that use biblical texts to make women  think and feel that they should be subservient to men and force women to accept domestic violence.

Archbishop Chong highlighted this following the increasing number of domestic violence cases which has led to the death of 8 women this year.

He says that the men who use the bible to condone their acts of domestic violence are misquoting the bible.

Archbishop Chong says that women that face this issue should speak out and the Catholic Church has a group that helps women that are in this type of relationship.

He says that the group is called “Woman at the Well” and they deal directly with members of the church and even others that are facing domestic violence.

Archbishop Chong says women cannot be silent anymore.

He says Fiji has a patriarchal society where the existing culture contributes to domestic violence.

Archbishop Chong says this is where they argue that men hold more authority over women and this is where that culture needs to be changed.

He says that the culture needs to be changed if it not promoting good Christian values.
