A number of people have been questioned by police after they allegedly assaulted Police officers.

Three juveniles aged 15 years were questioned for allegedly stoning a Police officer who was walking towards the Vatuwaqa Police Post last Thursday.

Police say the 20 year old officer was returning to the post when he was allegedly followed by some youths who swore and threw stones at him and also threw stones at the Community Post.

In another incident, five men in their 20s are in police custody at the Nakasi Police Station for allegedly stoning a Police Special Response Unit vehicle along Wainunu Road in Nakasi on Friday night.

The five allegedly threw stones at the vehicle while officers were on mobile patrol causing damage to the vehicle's tail gate light.

The five remain in custody at the Nakasi Police Station.

Last night, three juveniles aged 17 and 16 years were also questioned for the same incident.

Police say a 22-year-old tertiary student is in custody after he allegedly assaulted a police officer along the Tavakubu Road in Lautoka.

The suspect's vehicle was seized by the victim and another officer on Friday night as he was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

It is alleged the suspect followed the victim, and when he saw the officer driving his private vehicle towards the Lautoka Police Station, he confronted him and committed the alleged offence.

He remains in custody at the Lautoka Police Station as investigations continue.

Police say they are doing all they can to keep the communities safe and such attacks can impact operations if officers are injured or resources damaged.
