Three students have been suspended after allegedly assaulting a Year 11 student in a secondary school in Suva last Friday.
This has been confirmed by Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar who says a team from the Ministry visited the school to resolve the issue.
She says counsellors have also been deployed to the school to talk to students and provide support.
She says the incident is unfortunate and investigations are continuing by the Divisional Head and his team.
Akbar says they are working with the parents of the three students to identify solutions to the issue because they believe that discipline and responsibility also lies with them.
The 17-year-old boy was allegedly hit on the back of his head when he was in the toilet and then further bashed up by three boys in front of the school.
One of the boys allegedly involved is the Deputy Head Boy.
The student had to be rescued by teachers who were alerted about the incident.
He had to receive stitches on his lips.
