Fifteen drivers from Central Transport Company Limited did not turn up to work today which resulted in fewer buses operating and even the manager had to drive the bus.
The Operations Manager of Central Transport Company Limited Tulsi Ram says the drivers are demanding a pay rise.
The drivers want to be paid $400 a week.
A concerned parent had contacted Fijivillage earlier this afternoon, saying that buses were not stopping along the Laucala Bay route to pick up students from the bus stop next to Yat Sen School.
Ram says there were not enough bus drivers and the buses were full with standing passengers from the University of the South Pacific, and as a result they could not stop to pick up students.
The Operations Manager also revealed that most of their office and garage staff have been asked to drive buses to meet the shortage of bus drivers.
Ram has said once all their earnings for a week have been recorded then they will decide whether the drivers will get an increase.
