Katonibau, Cakaubalavu and Nacuqu named in Hong Kong extended squad

Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team coach Gareth Baber has included Isake Katonibau, Apenisa Cakaubalavu and Waisea Nacuqu as part of a 16 member extended squad to travel to Hong Kong for a preparation camp before the Hong Kong 7s and Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The other 13 players are Semi Kunatani, Jasa Veremalua, Josua Vakurinabili, Paula Dranisinukula, Kalione Nasoko, Jerry Tuwai, Vatemo Ravouvou, Amenoni Nasilasila, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Mesulame Kunavula, Eroni Sau, Alasio Naduva and Samisoni Viriviri.

Baber says that it is important to take 16 players to Hong Kong so that they can prepare for both tournaments adding he has every intention of selecting the best players for the Hong Kong 7s and ensuring they that they defend their title.

He also highlighted that there could be changes to the Commonwealth Team if there are injuries.

 

The team will depart for Hong Kong tomorrow.   

Fiji will play Samoa at 12.43am next Saturday in their first pool match of the Hong Kong 7s, we then play Russia at 5.54pm next Saturday and then take on New Zealand at 9.54pm next Saturday.

Meanwhile, the 2018 Commonwealth 7s will be held from the 13th to the 15th of next and Fiji will face off against Wales, Uganda and Sri Lanka in their pool games.
