Make no mistake, every nation on earth is put at‑risk by our changing climate, but Pacific nations face an extreme and unique vulnerability, and that must be reflected in our Nationally Determined Contributions.

This was highlighted by Acting Prime Minister and Minister Responsible for Climate change Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while speaking at the opening of the third Pacific Regional Dialogue on Nationally Determined Contributions this morning.

He stressed that our Nationally Determined Contributions must be focused on greater ambition and they must build our overall resilience to the increased flooding, the rising seas and the more frequent and more severe cyclones that are already causing immense destruction around the region.

Nationally Determined Contributions are the efforts by each country to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

The 3rd Pacific Regional Dialogue on Nationally Determined Contributions and consultations on the Regional Pacific Hub provides an opportunity for Pacific Island countries to share experiences and needs on the implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions.

Sayed-Khaiyum says Fiji’s commitment, since the very beginning of the COP23 Presidency has been to work with all of those willing to take action in the campaign for decisive climate action.

The 3 day Regional Pacific Dialogue includes the participation of 150 participants from 14 different Pacific Island Countries.
