Verekauta who allegedly hit the railing of a bridge past Tikaram Park, Lami and then fled the scene granted bail

Former athlete and Fiji 7s rep, Niko Verekauta who allegedly hit the railing of a bridge past Tikaram Park in Lami last Saturday and then fled the scene, has been granted bail.

Verekauta appeared before Suva Magistrate Waleen George this afternoon.

He has been charged with one count of drunk driving and one count of dangerous driving.

Police say it is alleged that Verekauta was intoxicated.

He has been released on a bail bond of $200 and has been told to keep out of trouble and reside in Lami Village until the disposal of the case.

The case will be called on the 1st of April.
