The old Parliament Complex in Veiuto

Government has allocated $5 million for the renovation of the old Parliament Complex in Veiuto.

This has been highlighted by Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum adding that the idea is to have most of the courts moved to the old Parliament Complex in Veiuto.

He says once there is more space created in the government buildings, there will be more space available for MPs and political parties enabling Members of Parliament to have an office of their own within government buildings.

While responding to SODELPA MP, Aseri Radrodro’s question on why there has been a significant increase in the budget for the Judiciary, Sayed-Khaiyum says that personal emoluments have gone up as they are hiring more people and to accommodate the increase of salaries following the Judiciary’s job evaluation exercise.

He also pointed out capital projects that include the new Nasinu Court House, the extension of the Lautoka High Court, upgrading of existing Court complexes, extension of the Nadi Court House, the relocation of the Ba Magistrates Court, rural and small time court services and the upgrade of the government buildings.

The Judiciary has a total allocation of $69.2 million in 2018/2019 National Budget.
