Flood warning for different parts of the Western Division

People are being urged to continue to take necessary precautions as a flood warning is still in force for many areas in Viti Levu especially the Western Division. 

A heavy rain warning is in force for the whole of Fiji.

There is a flood warning for Emuri to Semo village, Vatutu to Nadi Town, Nawaka, Mulomulo, Votualevu to Nadi Town, Toge to Ba Town, Vatukacevaceva to Rakiraki Town, Nasivi to Tavua Town, Navua Town and Keyasi to Sigatoka Town and Waimanu to Rewa River.

Please note that it is currently high tide.

The Nadi Weather Office says from 3pm yesterday Nadi received 217 millimetres of rain, Lautoka received 191 millimetres of rain, Nairukurku received 105 millimetres of rain, Momi received 95 millimetres of rain, Navolau received 90 millimetres of rain, Rakiraki received 76 millimetres of rain while Waimanu received 72 millimetres of rain.

Category 1 Tropical Cyclone Josie is expected to pass near Kadavu tonight.

The Cyclone does not have a direct threat on Fiji based on its projected track but people living in Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti Group should expect strong winds.

These expected strong winds will be indirect effects from the Cyclone and it will be able to bring down some temporary or loose shelters and also damage crops.

Please note that strong winds are likely to begin several hours before the centre passes nearby.

Tropical Cyclone Josie was located 140 kilometres West-Southwest of Kadavu at 6pm today and it has damaging gale force winds with the average speed of up 75 kilometres per hour and momentary gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour.

Residents in Galoa, Kadavu have confirmed to Fijivillage that wind speed has picked up from the last hour and they are experiencing rain.

Meanwhile, there are currently 14 evacuation centres open and they are Lovu Sangam School, Lautoka Primary School, Tavarau Primary School, Tuvu Primary School, Drasa Muslim Primary School, Gandhi Bhawan Primary School, Deshbandu Primary School, Taiperia Evacuation Center, Dratabu Community Hall, Saint Andrews Primary School, Nadi Technical College, Nawaka District School, Narata Village Community Hall, Semo Village Community Hall and Church and Nasivikoso, Wauosi, Nukuilau Community Hall and Church.

Navua

The entrance into Navua Town is closed to all traffic due to flood waters. 

This has been confirmed by Navua Police who also say flood waters have reached the old Navua Hospital. 

Navua Police say water levels in the town area have receded and people can access Tokotoko back road if they wish to go into Navua Town.

Western Division

Sigatoka

A resident in Maro, Sigatoka has confirmed to Fijivillage that water level has receded in areas around Semo, however it is still raining.

Meanwhile Police have confirmed that water level in the Sigatoka River is increasing.

Nadi

The Nadi Back road is still flooded.

A resident of Malolo Transmitter, Nadi has told Fijivillage that water has receded in their area and rain has stopped.

He says that some parts of Korovuto, Nadi is also flooded. 

People have also told us that the entrance to the Nadi Town from the temple is still flooded.

Police have confirmed that part of Denarau Road from Narewa is flooded and is only open to heavy duty vehicles. 

Queens Road from Sabeto to Waimalika in Nadi affected by flood waters and closed to all traffic.

Ba

Director Operations SSP Livai Driu has confirmed that parts 
Parts of Ba town, Yalalevu, Toko, Namosau Bridge are affected by flood waters. 

He says Police are controlling movement of people as they continue to assist people to move from flood affected places to evacuation centres. 

Residents in part of Ba have confirmed to Fijivillage that they have been without power and water.

Rakiraki

Police have confirmed that flood waters in Rakiraki Town have receded.

Some roads are still flooded in Rakiraki.

They are Vaivai Road, Vatukacevaceva Road and Barotu Road.

Lautoka

Saru Back Road and Vuda Back Road in Lautoka are flooded.

Queens Road from Lautoka to Lomolomo is also closed.

Northern Division

Qelemumu and Wairiki crossings in Cakaudrove are closed.

Electricity

Power supply in Tavua, Rakiraki and Ba is entirely out while parts of Lautoka, Nadi and Sigatoka have been restored power.

This has been confirmed by FEA CEO Hasmukh Patel.

Patel says there are also power disruptions in some rural areas in the Central Division.

The power disruptions have been caused by flooding and also fallen trees and power lines.

Patel says their teams are not able to access some of their zone substations due to flooding.

He says when flood waters recede then they will be able to examine the damage to some of their infrastructure and work to restore power to affected areas.
