Random Police checks conducted at two separate checkpoints have resulted in the seizure of drugs in the past few days.

Police say the first arrest was made at the Laqere Checkpoint at 1pm Wednesday where a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old taxi driver of Sakoca with two passengers in their 20s from Caubati was stopped and searched by officers manning the site.

The officers discovered plastic bags containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana, smoking apparatus and more than $1,000 cash.

Also discovered was the original registration plate of the vehicle driven by the first accused with an expired wheel tax sticker.

The three have been taken into custody as investigations continue.

The second arrest was made at the Wainadoi Checkpoint along Queens Highway where dried leaves believed to be marijuana was seized yesterday.

Also discovered were cash and several mobile phones.

The suspect in his 20s is in custody as investigations continue.

Police are requesting members of the public to be patient with their officers who will be erecting checkpoints throughout the day as this is part of the ongoing operations in tracking down illegal activities.
