The Republic of Fiji Military Forces held a reconciliation and restoration service with the Yasana o Macuata today at Sukanaivalu VC Barracks in Labasa.

The reconciliation and restoration process started yesterday with the RFMF Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai meeting with former soldiers who were involved in the takeover of the Sukanaivalu VC Barracks in the upheavals during the 2000 coup.

While speaking during the service, Kalouniwai says today is a great day when they can come together with a focus on reconciliation and unity.

He says the reconciliation and restoration program started yesterday as they aim to put together a framework for those who will be joining the RFMF.

He adds that it was not easy for those they met yesterday to share their stories and the things they and their families had to go through.

The RFMF Commander says they are grateful that some women were present yesterday, where they also shared the struggles they had to endure because of what transpired in 2000.

Kalouniwai says what transpired then had caused a separation between the Vanua and the RFMF.

He hopes that this reconciliation and restoration service can mend their relationship and bring back the unity that was there before.
