As flood waters start to recede and residents start to clean up their homes, the residents of Wailoku are asking the Water Authority of Fiji why there is no water supply.

A resident who wants to remain anonymous says what happened this morning was a surprise for most families because it started flooding when most of them were asleep.

He says many families could not save their household items while some vehicles got damaged because of floodwaters.

He also says now they don’t have water supply, and they have contacted the Water Authority of Fiji regarding the water cuts.

The 64-year-old resident asks when will the Water Authority stop giving them the reason for water cuts is that the water catchment is flooded.

He adds that this has been the reason given by WAF in past years, and they are asking why the Authority cannot find a solution for this.

Another resident shared that when they woke up this morning, floodwaters had already entered the house, and they had to put up all the items.

He says after moving their items to a safe place, they evacuated their home and made their way to higher ground.

He further says they were hoping to clean up their home when they returned, but to their dismay, there is no water.

The resident adds they hope that WAF can look into this issue as they have been facing it for many years.

Meanwhile, WAF says residents feeding from the Tamavua system will face water disruptions due to severe flooding at the Savura and Waimanu Pump Stations.

They say the heavy rain this morning has caused significant flooding, impacting their ability to maintain normal operations at these facilities.

WAF says the Savura Cascade Dam is currently blocked, resulting in the shutdown of all Savura Raw Water pumps.

They add that elevated turbidity levels are affecting water quality, further complicating production capabilities.

WAF says their divers are on standby and will proceed with diving operations as soon as water levels recede and the conditions are deemed safe.
