Unresolved home issues prompt many students to go missing – ACP Driu

Disappointment and dissatisfaction at home are key reasons why many school students go missing, with most later found staying at their friends’ homes or with relatives.

A recent case of a 14-year-old reported missing last Friday, who was safely located, has brought this issue to light again.

While responding to fijivillage News, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu says these incidents often arise from unresolved conflicts or unmet emotional needs at home, prompting children to leave without informing their parents.

He says police investigate each case and provide counseling for the children and their families.

ACP Driu is urging parents to foster open communication and create a supportive environment where children feel safe to share their concerns, stressing that this can help prevent such situations and ease family distress.
