Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says we need to get to the bottom of the drug situation in Fiji because there must be some people in the various authorities that should be watching, that should be fighting against this, that are probably implicated and the Government wants to find out who.

Rabuka highlighted this after meeting with Drug Free World Fiji Founder Kalesi Volatabu at Fiji Showcase.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Rabuka says the Government has been talking about drugs and a strategy to fight drugs, and also the set up of a bureau.

He says he wanted to talk to somebody who knows about it, before talking to the Minister for Home Affairs, who is spearheading the move in that area.

Rabuka says he hopes that Drug Free World Fiji will work with the Ministry of Home Affairs as they formulate the policies and strategies to fight against drugs in Fiji.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Volatabu says it is very significant for the Prime Minister to have come and spoken to her at Fiji Showcase, especially when the Narcotics Strategy has been launched.

She says she reminded him that a lot of the things are not reported to the police, Ministry of Health, or even the Education Ministry because a lot of things happen unreported in the community.

She says she has gone to different villages, schools, and communities, and says that every second person has seen how bad it is now.

Volatabu adds with the Narcotics Bureau being set up, and everyone puts their head down and focus, then change can be seen in 12 months.
