Our shared traditions bind us together as one people, one nation and so, this Christmas, let us recommit ourselves to building a Fiji where no one is left behind, where every child can dream without limits, every family can live in dignity, and every community can thrive.
The President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu says as we gather with loved ones to celebrate this special time, let us also reflect on the importance of unity as our diversity is our strength.
He says let us all remember the vulnerable in our midst, those without homes, those facing hardships, those who struggle with addiction and loneliness, families who struggle with loved ones who are lost to drug addiction or alcohol addiction, those who grieve the loss of loved ones who passed away this year.
Ratu Naiqama says we must remember loved ones who have passed on and pray for their eternal peace.
Ratu Naiqama has also emphasized the enduring values of love, compassion, reconciliation, resilience, hard work and hope that unite Fijians and define the spirit of Christmas.
He says these values have guided us through the challenges we have faced this year and remain the foundation of our shared identity as people of Fiji.
Ratu Naiqama says the year 2024 has been a year of resilience and renewal where together, we have faced collective and individual challenges with courage and celebrated the achievements to inspire hope for the future.
He has also thanked the hard-working civil servants, the first respondents and members of the disciplinary forces who ensure the safety and well-being of our people during the festive season.
Ratu Naiqama says their dedication is a gift to the nation and their service exemplifies the selflessness that Christmas inspires.
While also acknowledging those who have left our shores but remain connected to our homeland, the President says their love for Fiji and their contribution to their families and communities are deeply valued and adds that wherever they are in the world, they carry the light of Fiji with them.
He has thanked them for always having the nation and her people in their thoughts and prayers.
Ratu Naiqama is also urging all families to take heed of the weather warnings and to be prepared for adverse weather as we have been advised by the authorities.
