Uruguay upsets Fiji 24-17 at Perth 7s

Uruguay have upset the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team 24-17 in their first pool match in the Perth 7s.

Uruguay came from a 17-5 deficit at half-time taking advantage of the lackluster defence by Fiji.

Fiji scored early through Rupeni Kabu, Terio Veilawa, and Joji Nasova to get a 17-0 lead.

Uruguay struck back though Dante Soto to get the score 17-5 at half-time.

Fiji gave away a lot of possession in the second half through knock ons and forward passes.

Uruguay scored three second half tries through Ignacio Facciolo, Juan Manuel Tafernaberry, and Pedro Hoblog.

Fiji’s next game is against Kenya at 7.59 tonight before they play New Zealand at 4.22pm tomorrow in their last pool game.

In other results, New Zealand beat Kenya 29-14 and Canada thumped Great Britain 38-5.

The Men’s Cup quarter finals will kick off at 9.27pm tomorrow, the semi finals will be at 7.05pm Sunday and the cup final will kick off at 11.35pm.
